Happy New Year! Don’t Get Scammed.

Oh boy. Its that time of year again, when all of our social media feeds, emails, texts, junk mail, enthusiastically misguided friends, etc. try to convince us to follow their new workout guru, take this supplement, spend all of your mental bandwidth trying to adhere to a completely new lifestyle that is GUARANTEED to make you live your best life, you get it.

Its all BS. Seriously. All of it. Don’t let them fool you. As much as we would like to think we can bioengineer our way out of our unhealthy lifestyles and resulting depression, it just doesn’t have to be all that complicated. I’ve been writing about this stuff for years and trust me, I fall for the nonsense from time to time myself, but it always come back to the basics.

I’m not writing about this to make anyone feel bad. On the contrary, I would like to not only help you feel better, but to see that there are some very small changes you can make that can really improve your quality of life. Some of us need to make a lot of changes, some of us need only a few. BUT, it is important that you only work on a few at a time.

Trying to do too much too soon pretty much always leads to failure eventually. I’ve seen it happen too many times to count with both my own clients as well as friends, acquaintances, and a large number of fitness influencers.

Anyway, the point of this post is very simple. I have a wealth of articles here that can help you start to make a lot of these small changes that I have researched and distilled for you over the years. As a former research scientist, strength coach, athlete, and nerd, I promise you can trust I’m not going to scam you. And I have absolutely nothing for sale besides my book, Fitness without Fear which you can buy online from Amazon and Barnes and Noble. If you’d prefer to shop elsewhere, you can easily find some sources by googling “Fitness without Fear book stores” or requesting a copy at your local small bookstore.

I will be adding some articles here over the next few weeks to help you sort through the fitness/supplement industry BS, but in the meantime, here are some articles you really should read:

Posture

Family Fitness Begins with Walks

Fat Loss Begins at the Grocery Store

How to Train like a Scientist

And if you like those, there are plenty more. Lets get started, I will continue to scream into the void as long as I can, but seriously folks, stop letting the grifters take your money. Go for a daily walk, drink more water, eat more vegetables, and get a good night’s sleep when you can. It works, I promise.
